The symbol that I am interested in analyzing is the mennist movement. It’s kind of a response to feminism but fails to actually advocate for men’s rights. I think the ideology it supports is one of entitlement in the face of equal rights. I think this is harmful because men’s rights are important. Most fathers aren’t awarded equal custody of their children, men can be victims of rape. Beyond those two issues mennism could be advocating for gay men, for Muslim men, for Black and Latino men, for transgender men and it simply marginalizes the groups that need activism. Opting instead for a counter-feminist movement that is not only offensive, but archaic.
